Baseball Disappointed with 23-3 Loss in 2018 Opener


 
Goldey-Beacom baseball's 2018 debut ended with a disappointing 23-3 loss at Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory, NC.

The Bears (8-2) trounced early with a five-run first inning. After several scores off wild pitches, Lenoir-Rhyne's Brock Johnson (3-for-5 with five RBI) smacked a triple to right field bringing home two runs.

Connor Dailey (1-0) received the win for the Bears on the mound. He pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and one earned run. Lenoir-Rhyne also got a valuable performance from Will Jones (3-for-4) tallying two RBI and two runs.
 
In his Lightning debut, senior Jay Smith from Zeeland, Mich. hit 3-for-4 from the batter's box. Collegiate Baseball's preseason selection for Player to Watch, senior Raul Perez-Duran (Trenton, N.J.), batted in two runs.

Jake Kinsell (0-1), the sophomore from Carmichaels, Pa., got the starting nod on the mound for the Lightning.


The Lightning (0-1) will rematch the Bears on Sunday in a doubleheader set to begin at noon.
