Corey Taite Picked CACC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

It only was one game, but the performance along with an anticipated milestone got Goldey-Beacom senior Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for a second time this season.

In a game in which he became the program's career scoring leader, Taite ended with 24 points, five rebounds and five assists in Goldey-Beacom's 81-69 victory Wednesday at New Haven. Taite was a big part of the first half, when he scored 10 points to help the Lightning open a 41-20 lead with the team shooting 52 percent (14-of-27) from the floor.

Taite hit the mark when he hit a free throw with 5:55 left in the first half, topping the mark of 1,413 points established by Sam McDuffie from 2007-11. Taite, who has made the Weekly Honor Roll four time this season, now stands at 1,428 points.

With other records in sight, Taite now is second in school history with 309 assists, second with 384 free throws, second with 440 field goals, third with 182 steals, third with 164 three-pointers and fifth with 437 rebounds.

Taite is seventh in the nation with 66 free throws, 31st with 21.3 points per game, 49th with an .892 free throw percentage, 67th with 192 points and 82nd with 34.72 minutes per game.

The Lightning (4-5, 2-0) are on a three-game winning streak and their schedule featured a challenging start in which the first three opponents (Bentley, Saint Anselm and Saint Thomas Aquinas) have been ranked at some point this season. The fourth opponent, Bridgeport, is regionally ranked and GBC notched a 104-87 victory.

Goldey-Beacom is home Wednesday against Jefferson at 8:00 pm, which follows the 6:00 pm contest between the same schools.
