Corey Taite Named CACC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

Goldey-Beacom senior Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) added yet another accolade in being tabbed Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week with Sarah Round (Northampton, England) named to the Women's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll.

Taite averaged 21.0 points on 44 percent shooting (10-of-23), 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.0 steals over two games last week. He had 19 points, three assists, three rebounds, two 3-pointers and two steals Wednesday at Saint Thomas Aquinas. Taite came back Saturday with 23 points on 6-of-13 shooting, seven rebounds, seven assists, four steals and two 3-pointers in Goldey-Beacom's 104-87 win over Bridgeport, ranked second in the East Region.

Taite simply has been a dynamic player since his arrival in Pike Creek, highlighted last season by him being tabbed the CACC Player of the Year, first team All-East Region by both the NABC and CCA as well as a member of the CACC All-Tournament Team. He ended last season 61st in the country with 19.4 points per game, 14th with 67 steals, 20th with 2.23 steals per contest, 21st with 156 free throws, 51st with 581 points, 69th with 1,058 minutes and 76th with 35.3 minutes per game.

This season already has been a solid campaign in which is averaging 20.8 points over four games, including 31 points November 11 against sixth-ranked Saint Anselm. He also is averaging 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in the young campaign.

Taite is third in school history with 1,319 points, second with 344 free throws, third with 157 three-pointers, fourth with 286 assists, third with 174 steals, second with 409 field goals and sixth with 408 rebounds. His play last season helped the Lightning win 20 games for a second straight year and capture the CACC South Division title.

Round closed with 11 points, seven rebounds and two three-pointers Saturday at Molloy in Goldey-Beacom's lone contest for the week.

Round, last week's CACC Player and Rookie of the Week, already is off to a solid start in which she is averaging 19.0 points on 50 percent shooting (17-of-34) and 4.3 rebounds over three games. She scored 26 points on 6-of-11 shooting with five 3-pointers November 10 against American International.
