Goldey-Beacom Gets Four Picked for CACC Weekly Honors

Goldey-Beacom received more accolades from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with four of its student-athletes picked for weekly honors.
 
Freshman Maria Bruno (Maracay, Venezuela) was named the Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week, Catarina Zheng (Oporto, Portugal) was tabbed to the sport's Weekly Honor Roll, fellow sophomore Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) was picked to the Women's Soccer Weekly Honor Roll and freshman Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) was named to the Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll.
 
Bruno went 2-0 on the week in both singles and doubles.  She got a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Chestnut Hill's Daniela Siqueira and a 6-0, 6-0 win over Caldwell's Lauryn Schwint.  Bruno teamed with junior Silvia Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) for a 6-1 victory at over Siqueira and Julia Bellon before recording a 6-0 win over Schwint and Nina Griffin.
 
Bruno is 4-0 on the year in doubles and 6-3 in singles.
 
Zheng went 2-0 in both singles and doubles during the week.  She notched a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Chestnut Hill's Barbara Broville and then got a 6-0, 6-0 victory vs. Caldwell's Kiana Wiggins.  Zheng and sophomore Lotte Lesscher y Post (Arnhem, Netherlands) teamed for a 7-6 (7-2) win over Broville and Mia Covic before getting a 6-0 victory vs. Wiggins and Janis Jimenez.
 
Zheng is 9-1 on the campaign in doubles, all with Lesscher y Post, and 6-1 in singles.  She is just outside the top 10 in school history with 25 doubles wins and 24 singles triumphs.
 
Speaks ended with two goals and an assist over two games last week.  She had a goal and an assist Tuesday against Georgian Court and also scored Saturday in the unit's 4-1 win at Bloomfield.
 
Speaks again is in the national spotlight by sitting 12th in the county with 10 goals and 25 points.  She also is sixth in team history with 23 goals and tied for sixth with 55 points.
 
Boyce closed with 37 kills, three aces, 15 digs and two block assists over two matches last week.  Boyce went on a tear Saturday vs. reigning league champion Caldwell, getting 11 of her season-best 25 kills in the fourth set and closing with an overall .276 hitting percentage in Goldey-Beacom's 3-1 win.  She also had 12 kills and eight digs Wednesday against University of the Sciences.
 
Boyce is sixth in the league with 233 kills, sixth with 268.5 points, seventh with 3.19 kills per set, seventh with 3.7 points per set and eighth with 28 aces.
