Women’s Soccer Clinches CACC Tournament Berth With 4-1 Win at Bloomfield

Goldey-Beacom got a pair of first-half goals to establish momentum and clinched its school-record fifth straight trip to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament with a 4-1 victory at Bloomfield in Bloomfield, NJ.

Senior Sophie Woods (Manchester, England) got the Lightning on the board in the 15th minute, pouncing on a misplay by the goalkeeper for her third goal of the season and ninth career.  Senior Cliona Crammond (Wicklow, Ireland) gave GBC a 2-0 lead in the 24th minute, getting a pass from sophomore Taylor Owen (Pittsburgh, PA) and putting it just under the bar for her seventh goal of the year.

The Bears refused to sit back by getting within 2-1 just under a minute later.  Imani Young took a feed from Lisa Parello and put one in the back of the net for her first of the campaign.

The Lightning's cushion stayed at one goal into the second half, but became 3-1 just 6:28 into the period.  Sophomore Emily Woolvin (Brierley Hill, England) had her attempt blocked in front, but junior Jenna Fannon (Newark, DE) was there for the rebound and put it home for her seventh of the year.

Sophomore Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) finally ended the suspense in the 83rd minute to give Goldey-Beacom a 4-1 lead.  Fannon got the assist as Speaks put home a shot for her team-leading 10th goal of the season and 25th point, both tied for the seventh-best single-year totals in program history.

Crammond now is tied for fifth in GBC history with 15 assists, remains fifth with 25 goals and fifth with 65 points.  Speaks now is sixth outright with 23 goals and tied for sixth with 55 points.

Senior Marta Lopez (Valencia, Spain) recorded eight saves with Fannon and Speaks getting three shots apiece for the Lightning.

Young took three shots with Emira Sela getting three saves for the Bears (1-10-1, 0-7-1 CACC).

GBC (10-3, 7-1) also clinched its third straight season with double-digit victories and (as of 5:00 pm on Saturday) remains tied atop the league with Georgian Court at 21 points.  Georgian Court is at Felician on Saturday night.

The Lightning previously had gone to the CACC Tournament four straight years from 2003-06.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Wednesday to visit Chestnut Hill.  The 7:00 pm match takes place at Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School in Plymouth Meeting, PA.
