Volleyball Falls to Mercy 3-1



Goldey-Beacom fell in an out-of-conference match at Mercy 3-1 (25-15, 21-25, 24-26, 18-25) in Dobbs Ferry, NY.

Goldey-Beacom struck first in set one going on an 11-point scoring streak to open a 1-0 lead. The Lightning held the Mavericks to a .160 hitting percentage and had a 16-7 kill advantage.

Goldey-Beacom dominated in the second set, holding Mercy to a .059 hitting percentage and had a 12-9 kill advantage.  However, Mercy took set two going on a seven-point scoring streak. Goldey-Beacom and Mercy battled back and forth in set three with the Lightning going on a five-point scoring streak but Mercy was able to hold Goldey-Beacom to a .122 hitting percentage to take the third set.

Mercy came out on top in set four with a .414 hitting percentage and a 15-11 kill advantage. Mercy took set four to win the game 3-1.

Sophomore Lindsay Przywara (Williamstown, N.J.) had 21 kills and freshman Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, N.J.) recorded 19 for Goldey-Beacom. Senior Olivia Florence (Glen Allen, Va.) had 22 assists and freshman Autumn Spendlove (Las Vegas, Nev.) amassed 15 for the Lightning. Sophomore Courtney Bublitz (North East, Md.) recorded 15 digs, Przywara had 10 and Boyce totaled nine for the Lightning.

Leah Petty, Kaitlyn Patridge and Leilani Vazquez all had 10 kills each for Mercy. Brooke Runge had 35 assists, Neysha Gonzalez recorded 23 digs, Adriana Lopez-Soto had 13 and Vazquez notched 11 for Mercy.

Goldey-Beacom is back in action on Saturday vs. Dominican (NY) at 11:30 am in Orangeburg, NY.
