Volleyball Battles to a 3-2 Win Over U. Of the Sciences



Goldey-Beacom battles in five sets to beat University of the Sciences 3-2 (25-21, 25-27, 25-18, 19-25, 15-8) in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match up in Philadelphia, PA.

Goldey-Beacom and the U. of the Sciences battled back and forth in the first set, but the Lightning came out on top. The Lightning held the U. of the Sciences to a .143 hitting percentage and had a 13-8 kill advantage.

U. of the Sciences fought back in the second set despite the Lightning going on a four-point scoring streak. The Devils held the Lightning to a .122 hitting percentage.

Both teams continued to battle. The Lightning took set three and U. of the Sciences grabbed the fourth, sending the match to a fifth set. In set five, the Lightning went on a four-point scoring streak, keeping U. of the Sciences to a -.083 hitting percentage. The Lightning took set five to beat the Devils 3-2.

Freshman Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, N.J.) had 26 kills and sophomore Lindsay Przywara (Williamstown, N.J.) recorded 15 for the Lightning. Senior Olivia Florence (Glen Allen, Va.) had 26 assists and freshman Autumn Spendlove (Las Vegas, Nev.) amassed 19 for Goldey-Beacom. Sophomore Courtney Bublitz (North East, Md.) recorded 19 digs, Spendlove had 15 and Boyce totaled 13 for the Lightning.

Sarah Miller had 16 kills with Brooke Witmer and Bianca Galis both notching 11 for the U. of the Sciences. Caelin Jaskot had 45 assists, Rhiannon Comia notched 23 digs, Sarah Miller amassed 17 digs and Danielle Taylor had 14 for the U. of the Sciences.

Goldey-Beacom is back in action on Wednesday vs. Mercy at 6:00 pm in Dobbs Ferry, NY.
