Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer’s Unbeaten Run Ends with 2-1 Loss at Daemen

The best start in the history of Goldey-Beacom's women's soccer program remains after eight matches, but saw its first blemish with the team's 2-1 loss at Daemen in Amherst, NY.

The Lightning's unbeaten streak after seven games was the best after it opened 4-0 last year, but the unit will have to settle for 6-1-1.  The 5-0 opening in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference remains best in team annals.

The Wildcats (5-2-1) opened a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute when Leah McDonell took a through pass from Celia de Pablo Esteban and scored her first goal of the season.

The Lightning squared things with 1:48 left in the first half.  Junior Sophie Greenwood (Burnley, England) took a free kick that went off the hands of goalkeeper Maddie Flores and in for her first goal of the year.

But Daemen grabbed the lead for good in the 60th minute.  Jamie Boyar got a look from the right wing and put a high shot inside the left post for her first goal of the campaign.

Goldey-Beacom possessed a 27-9 shots edge that included 12 attempts on cage, including eight from freshman Taylor Owen (East Pennsboro, PA) and four from Greenwood.  Junior Marta Lopez (Valencia, Spain) made one save.

Flores kept the Wildcats in the contest with 11 saves and Boyar amassed four shots.

Goldey-Beacom has a short turnaround with a home match Wednesday against Lincoln (PA), starting at 3:00 pm.
