Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Rolls, 4-0, at Saint Thomas Aquinas

Goldey-Beacom put up three second-half goals and made it seven victories over its last nine outings with a 4-0 triumph at Saint Thomas Aquinas in Sparkill, NY.

Goldey-Beacom (7-3), which had lost all six previous meetings in the series, in the 37th minute grabbed a 1-0 lead.  Junior Chahin Aghrim (Bonn, Germany) got the ball on the right side, made a long run and buried a short shot inside the right post for his fifth goal of the season.

Aghrim's 11th career goal moves him into a tie for 11th place in school history and his 36 career points puts him in an eighth-place deadlock.

Freshman Alejandro Varela (Cali, Colombia) made it 2-0 in the 60th minute with his second goal of the year.  Taking a free kick from the left side, Varela put one on cage that took a bounce and skipped up just under the crossbar.

The scoring was not finished as the Lightning's hard work in the 66th minute resulted in a penalty kick.  Sophomore Levi Maruca (Downingtown, PA) gladly took advantage, putting his attempt from the spot inside the right post for his second goal of the season.

The barrage continued two minutes later when senior Mateus Silvestre (Picarras, Brazil) joined the party.  He received a great pass in the box from junior Callum Flynn (Guildford, England) and put a volley on it for his third goal of the season and 10th career.

Junior Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa) made two saves and posted his seventh career shutout, moving into a tie for second place with Jim Grando (2000-01).  The school record of nine is held by Peter Ferrente (2002).

The Lightning recorded a 16-6 shots edge that included 10-4 in the second half.

Jack Nicholson (2-4) made three saves over 45 minutes for the Spartans (3-4-1).

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Post at 3:30 pm, which follows the women's 1:00 pm match between the same schools.
