Freshman Nicholas Ladeira (Johannesburg, South Africa) and Sophomore Nicolas Jaramillo (Cali, Columbia) scored heroic goals in Goldey-Beacom's 2-1 double-overtime victory over Bloomfield at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field.
With 1:37 remaining in the match, Ladeira headed the ball off the crossbar ricocheting into the back of the net to even the match, 1-1. The goal marked Ladeira's second of the season and was assisted by a bouncing volley from senior Mateus Silvestre (Picarras, Brazil).
During the second period of extra time, Jaramillo struck the game-winning goal inside of the left post. Jaramillo's first goal of the season came off a beautiful cross, on the defensive side of the pitch, from Artur Zvinchuk (Bonn, Germany).
Junior Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa) recorded seven saves for Goldey-Beacom (6-3, 3-2 CACC).
Silvestre and Senior Lorenzo Gama (Bali, Indonesia) took four shots apiece.
The Lightning out shot Bloomfield (6-2, 4-1 CACC) 22-12, handing the Bears their first loss in conference play.
For the Bears, Regsan Watkins scored a goal with 22:39 remaining in the match.
Goldey-Beacom plays its next match at Saint Thomas Aquinas. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 pm on Tuesday.
