Cross Country Excels at GBC Fall Classic

Goldey-Beacom's men's cross country team had an outstanding performance in closing third and the women ended sixth at the 16th GBC Fall Classic in Wilmington, DE.

Junior Jono Hooper (Brisbane, Australia) again stole the show for the Lightning, running the 8,000-meter course at Carousel Park in 29:01.9 to finish third. It was his third top-20 finishes in as many races this season.

Senior Justin Morris (Abington, MD) ended 18th in 31:01.2, sophomore Adam Quann (Pennsville, NJ) was 21st in 31:39.0, Chauncey Nichols (New Castle, DE) finished 22nd in 31:40.6 and fellow freshman Gary Walsh (New Castle, DE) closed 33rd in 33:46.5.

The Lightning closed with 92 points for their best team outing of the season. Bloomfield won with 35 points.

The women's unit saw senior Crystal McCollum (Elkton, MD) end 20th in 23:42.7 over the 5,000-meter trail. Cara Jones (Wilmington, DE) finished 30th in 24:57.7, fellow freshman Brittany Delgado (Hamilton, NJ) closed 34th in 25:24.6, freshman Holly Tesoro (Milford, DE) ended 36th in 25:48.3 and junior Juana Henao (Bogota, Colombia) finished 38th in 26:04.5.

GBC amassed 153 points and Bloomfield won with 24 points.

Goldey-Beacom next Saturday races at the Don Cathcart Invitational in Salisbury, MD. The women start at 9:45 am and the men go at 10:30 am.
