Crammond’s Two Goals Keeps Women’s Soccer Red Hot With 3-1 Win at Wilmington

Junior Cliona Crammond (Wicklow, Ireland) scored twice and Goldey-Beacom remained unbeaten with a 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win at Wilmington (DE) in Newark.

The Lightning (6-0-1, 5-0 CACC) keep their best starts in school history both overall and in the conference going and are one of two undefeated teams in league play remaining (Georgian Court, 3-0).  GBC is the only overall unbeaten team left in the conference.

GBC grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute when a 19-yard free kick from senior Amy Runciman (Luton, England) was tapped in by Crammond.  Freshman Alanna Speaks (Wilmington, DE) made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute, corralling a misplay from goalkeeper Kierstyn Williams and netting her league-leading seventh goal of the season.

Runciman now has 74 career points, moving her into a tie with former teammate Alex Smith (2011-14) for second place in team history.

Speaks' effort comes just after she was picked CACC Player and Rookie of the Week for a second straight week.

The Wildcats got one back in the 52nd minute with Melissa Gall heading in a free kick from Rebecca Dolhansky to make it 2-1.

The Lightning then iced it in the 75th minute.  Freshman Taylor Owen (East Pennsboro, PA) was hauled down on a clear goal-scoring opportunity in which Gall was assessed a red card, leading to a free kick just outside the box.  Crammond once again did her thing by bouncing it off the right post and in for her third goal of the season, 13th career and her first career brace.

Crammond and Runciman had three shots apiece with junior Marta Lopez (Valencia, Spain), the reigning CACC Goalkeeper of the Week, getting two saves.

Gall had two shots before being issued her marching orders, Loran Wyrough also had two shots and Williams recorded two saves for the Wildcats (4-3-1, 3-1).

Goldey-Beacom does not play again until next Tuesday, when it visits Daemen for a noon start in Buffalo, NY.
