Women’s Tennis Still Perfect Thanks to 8-1 Win at Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom's young lineup help keep the squad's perfect record intact with an 8-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win at Jefferson, formerly Philadelphia University, in Philadelphia, PA.

Freshmen Lotte Lesscher y Post (Arnhem, Netherlands) and Catarina Zheng (Oporto, Portugal) posted an 8-4 win at first doubles over Marta Yevstakhevych and Lauren Candia, sophomore Anna Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) and freshman Fredrika Regner (Langaryd, Sweden) got an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles over Usha Baublitz and Millie Coombes with junior Manuela Cornejo (Quito, Ecuador) and sophomore Alma Garcia Valle (Valladolid, Spain) recording an 8-2 win at third doubles over Eryn Nguyen and Katelyn High.

Regner earlier today was picked CACC Rookie of the Week and Hortelano Pey made the league's Weekly Honor Roll.

Zheng notched a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at second singles over Candia, Hortelano Pey got a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles over Baublitz and Regner posted a 6-0, 6-4 victory at fourth singles over Coombes. Garcia Valle won at fifth singles via retirement from Nguyen and sophomore Silvia Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles over Lindsey McDonough.

GBC (4-0, 3-0 CACC) has won 12 straight regular-season conference matches dating to 2015 and remains tied with Concordia-NY (3-0) atop the conference.

Goldey-Beacom this weekend will compete at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional Championship. It will take place at the Billie Jean King USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.

The Lightning's next dual match is September 27 vs. Wilmington (DE) at Delcastle Tennis Center, starting at 3:00 pm.
