Cross Country Takes Part in the Delaware Invitational

Going against tough competition is nothing new for Goldey-Beacom and that again was on display at the Delaware Invitational in Newark, DE.

The Lightning went against Division I Delaware and many teams from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Those CACC teams and the remainder of the league will be back at White Clay Creek State Park for the conference championships on October 22, which GBC is hosting.

The men's side saw junior Jono Hooper (Brisbane, Autralia) again dazzle by closing 11th in 28:45.65, besting 15 from the University of Delaware's club team. Senior Victor Rueda-Jimenez (Milford, DE) was 18th in 29:27.66, sophomore Adam Quann (Pennsville, NJ) ended 30th in 30:51.93, freshman Chauncey Nichols (New Castle, DE) closed 39th in 31:41.94 and senior Justin Morris (Abingdon, MD) was 48th in 32:19.49.

The men closed seventh with 144 points. Wilmington (DE) was the title with 77.

The women's ledger witnessed senior Crystal McCollum (Elkton, MD) end 65th in 29:23.04, Cara Jones (Wilmington, DE) closed 79th in 31:15.49 and fellow freshman Brittany Delgado (Hamilton, NJ) finished 90th in 32:38.20. Taylor McKinney (Wilmington, DE) was 95th in 33:39.78 and fellow junior Chelby McCall (Chesapeake City, MD) finished 98th in 34:01.09.

The Lightning were 10th with 281 points. Delaware rolled with 18 points, getting nine of the top 10 finishers.

Goldey-Beacom next Friday hosts the GBC Fall Classic at Carousel Park in Wilmington, DE. The women's race goes at 9:00 am and the men compete at 9:45 am.
