Volleyball Notches First Conference Victory in 2017


 

Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday night defeated Chestnut Hill (25-16, 19-25, 25-18, 27-25), capturing its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory of the season in Philadelphia, PA.

The Lightning (2-4, 1-0 CACC) outpaced the Griffins (1-8, 0-1 CACC) in hitting percentage (.216 - .110) and kills (57 to 38). Goldey-Beacom produced more assists (54 to 33) and digs (86 to 79).

In the fourth set, Megann Santiago (Levittown, NY) assisted Jada Canteen (Newark, DE) with a kill to end the match.

For Goldey-Beacom, freshman Breanne Haley (Elkton, MD) put on a stellar performance tallying 15 digs, 24 kills and a .310 hitting percentage. Haley recorded her sixth straight double-double on the season. 

Seniors Jax Babezki (Warrington, PA) and Canteen struck the ball well posting 13 kills with a .419 percentage and 11 kills with a .250 percentage, respectively.

Freshman Sydney Fulton (Wilmington, DE) boosted the Lightning scoring 46 assists. Morgan Andrews (freshman from Wilmington, DE) helped the back line with 29 digs.

Chestnut Hill had notable performances from Samantha Gelfan (10 kills), Cassie Callahan (nine kills and a .389 percentage), Kennedy Sutton (28 assists), and Reily Byxbee (19 digs).

Volleyball will participate in their next match at the Kutztown Classic. They are scheduled to play Shepherd University on Friday, September 15 at 3:00 pm.
