Volleyball Opens 2017 With a Split at Ramfest



Goldey-Beacom opened its campaign with a 3-0 victory (25-22, 25-18, 25-15) over Salem International at Ramfest in West Chester, PA before a 3-1 setback (24-26, 25-22, 18-25, 16-25) to Millersville.
 
GBC in the second and third sets against Salem International went on a tear, combining for 20 kills and just eight errors.  SIU during that stretch was forced into 15 errors and a -.031 hitting percentage.
 
Freshman Breanne Haley (Elkton, MD) blossomed in her collegiate debut, closing with 15 kills, five digs and an impressive .379 hitting percentage.  Sydney Fulton (Wilmington, DE) totaled 11 assists and five digs, fellow freshman Morgan Andrews (Wilmington, DE) recorded nine digs with sophomore Makinsie Balderson (Fairfax, VA) getting six kills and six digs.
 
Rachel Hess had seven kills and 11 digs with Cassidy Pluta notching 12 digs for Salem International (0-1).
 
The Lightning (1-1) in its second match played the Marauders level at 14 kills apiece in the second set to forge a 1-1 tie.  But Millersville recorded 17 kills in each of the last two sets to end the match with a 67-42 advantage.
 
Haley continued her role with 16 kills and 16 digs for her first collegiate double-double.  Fulton recorded 23 assists, Andrews totaled 16 digs, Balderson had 12 and junior Olivia Florence (Glen Allen, VA) ended with 12 assists.
 
Erin Harman had 24 kills and 13 digs, Lindsey Blevins pounded 17 kills and Kelsi Ceriani added 12 for Millersville (2-0).
 
Goldey-Beacom is back in action Saturday against Franklin Pierce at noon and host West Chester after 2:00 pm.
