Men’s Soccer Opens Season with 3-0 Loss at Shippensburg

Goldey-Beacom gained a decided shots advantage in its season opener, but lost on the scoreboard in a 3-0 setback at Shippensburg in Shippensburg, PA.

Goldey-Beacom fell into a 1-0 hole in the 14th minute when Jake Shefsky put a corner kick in the box that Jan Striewe headed home.  The margin doubled in the 30th minute when the Raiders were awarded a penalty kick and Patrick Luebben buried it.

Shippensburg (1-0) in the 61st minute took advantage of a free kick and converted for a 3-0 lead as Cole Kropnick took a feed from Erik Espinoza and found the back of the net.

Junior Chahin Aghrim (Bonn, Germany) closed with four shots to help the Lightning (0-1) own a 16-7 edge.  Junior Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa), also picked first team All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference a season ago, made three saves.

Striewe led the Raiders with two shots and Matt Harder amassed five saves for Shippensburg.

Goldey-Beacom on Sunday once again will try for its first win of the season as it faces Bloomsburg in a 3:30 pm match.  The women's squad faces Roberts Wesleyan earlier in the day at 1:00 pm.
