Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Earns Second Win In Program History

Goldey-Beacom played a couple of exhilarating games on a cloudy day at Doyle Field, winning the first 6-5 on a two-out, two-run single from freshman Justin Hill (Seaford, DE) in the bottom of the ninth inning and lost the second, 4-2, in extra innings.

Trailing 5-1 heading into the ninth, the Lightning pulled off a spectacular comeback by scoring five runs to win the game. Freshman Trent Hearn (Bethel, Del.) hit a sacrifice fly scoring Keegan Marsden (Stratford, Ont.) from third base. Tevin Thomas (2-for-5), a freshman from Dover, Del., hit an RBI single scoring Brandon Hanson (Bayonne, N.J.) on the play. Edwin Lee (2-for-5), a junior from La Plata, Md., tacked on another RBI single scoring Raul Perez-Duran (Trenton, N.J.) from third base.

With two outs and the bases loaded, Hill struck a walk-off single up the middle to score Lee and Thomas. That hit gave the Lightning their second win in program history.

Brandon Ferrie, a freshman from Royersford, Pa., started for the Lightning and showed a solid outing. He pitched six and one-third innings, tallied three strikeouts and three earned runs.

Blake Salesky (1-2), a junior from Aurora, Ill., walked away with the win after entering the game in the seventh inning. He pitched two and two-third innings, posted two strikeouts and two earned runs.

Marsden (1-for-2, 2 walks) and Perez-Duran (2 for 4) also had notable batting appearances.

Daniel Gregor (0-1) received the loss for Caldwell.

In the second game of a nail-biting doubleheader, Caldwell's pitching proved too much for the Lightning.

During the eight inning standoff, the Cougars (6-13) pulled away scoring two runs in extra innings. Ryan Rivera and Justin Jeannette both swatted RBI singles to put Caldwell in a 4-2 lead.

Anthony Frascati (2-0) took the mound for Caldwell in the sixth inning. He allowed no runs or hits, and struck out four batters while pitching two and two-third innings during his victory. Starting pitcher, Zach Endersby, set up Frascati by pitching five and one-third innings, and allowing two hits with one earned run.

Holden Bailey (0-1), a freshman from Milford, Del., took the loss for Goldey-Beacom while allowing one earned run through three innings.

The next contest for Goldey-Beacom (2-20) is a road doubleheader against Felician University. Game time on Tuesday is set for 4:00 pm.
