In a competitive battle between two teams headed to the NCAA Tournament, Goldey-Beacom gave all it could before succumbing to a heartbreaking 5-4 loss vs. 32nd-ranked New York Tech at the Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington, DE.

GBC (13-3), ranked third in the East Region, already had a 2-0 lead by virtue of forfeit wins going into doubles before NYIT, first in the East, leveled the match.  Seniors Nina Sengl (Puchheim, Germany) and Francesca Beg (Westbury, England), ranked 10th in the region, dropped an 8-5 decision to top-ranked Lena Dimmer and Karolina Pondusova at first doubles.  Freshman Anna Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) and junior Raquel Morais (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) got a battle from Melanie Benyadi and Antonella Lopez at No. 2 doubles, but were dealt an 8-3 setback.

Sengl got things back on track at fourth singles, improving to 16-0 at singles with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Lopez.  She now is tied for fourth in school history for the most single-season victories.

Freshman Silvia Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) kept that momentum going with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles over Rosa LaCorte.  She improved to 12-3 in singles for the academic year.

But the Bears (15-0) completed the comeback by taking the last three rubbers.

Pondusova began things with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at second singles over Beg and Benyadi notched a 6-2, 6-2 win over freshman Alma Garcia Valle (Valladolid, Spain) at No. 3 singles.  The attention then turned to Dimmer, ranked 42nd in the country and first in the region, against Anna Hortelano Pey, listed 15th in the region.  In a tight match in which featured many winners and few unforced errors, Dimmer emerged with a 6-3, 6-4 win.

If Goldey-Beacom does not add a match for the remainder of the month, its next match will be in the NCAA Tournament either May 1 or 2 at a site to be determined.
