Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Nicholas Ladeira’s OT Goal Sends Men’s Soccer to the CACC Final

A nail-biter of a match came to a thrilling conclusion with freshman Nicholas Ladeira (Johannesburg, South Africa) scoring 2:03 into overtime, giving Goldey-Beacom a 2-1 overtime victory over Post in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference semifinals in Lakewood, NJ.

Second-seeded GBC (15-4-1, 9-2-1 CACC) is off to the final for the first time since winning the 2003 championship and will face No. 1 seed Jefferson on Sunday at 10:00 am, also on the campus of Georgian Court University.  Please note to turn your clocks back one hour before the match for the end of daylight saving time.

The Lightning controlled most of the play in extra time and waited patiently for their opportunity.  They got it when senior Alvaro Martinez (Zaragoza, Spain) beat his defender one-on-one and fed the ball in the box to Ladeira, who put it home right on the doorstep for his seventh goal of the campaign.

Both teams early on were playing outstanding defense and it would take a great offensive performance for one to break through.  Sergio Diaz for Post thought he had before his shot in close was stopped by junior Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa).  However, Eden Gendler was there for the rebound in the 56th minute to put the Eagles ahead.

Goldey-Beacom was looking for an opportunity and got it, intercepting a pass just outside the 18 and drawing a foul inside the box for a penalty kick.  Senior Mateus Silvestre (Picarras, Brazil) was called upon from the spot and delivered in the 74th minute for his seventh goal of the season, making him 2-for-2 in penalties for his career.

Bismilla, the CACC Goalkeeper of the Year and the sport's CACC Top XVI Award winner for academic excellence, again controlled the tempo with seven saves that included five in the first half to keep the match scoreless at the break.

Sergio Diaz took eight shots and Giovanni Riello made a pair of saves for the No. 6 seed Eagles (8-9).

Goldey-Beacom's 15 victories are one shy of the school record, set in 1997 and equaled in 2002.  This will be the team's third trip to the CACC final as it looks for its second crown.
