Volleyball Ends Regular Season With 3-2 Loss at Caldwell


 
In a preview of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament quarterfinal, Goldey-Beacom was handed a 3-2 loss (21-25, 25-20, 25-15, 17-25, 9-15) loss by Caldwell in Caldwell, NJ.
 
Goldey-Beacom in the third set went on a tear with 12 kills and just two errors for a .294 hitting percentage.  Senior Jax Babezki (Warrington, PA) had six kills and no errors for a .750 percentage in that span for the Lightning, who limited the Cougars to only a -.030 percentage.
 
Caldwell won the fourth set despite a .120 percentage and then took the fifth with nine kills and a .364 percentage.  Katrina Janssen had four kills and a .500 percentage in the finale for Caldwell.
 
Freshman Breanne Haley (Elkton, MD) had 20 kills and 15 digs for her 20th double-double of the season for GBC.  Sophomore Makinsie Balderson (Fairfax, VA) notched 11 kills and 16 digs for her second double-double of the campaign, Babezki recorded 14 kills, junior Olivia Florence (Glen Allen, VA) had 23 assists, freshman Sydney Fulton (Wilmington, DE) amassed 20 and junior Megann Santiago (Levittown, NY) recorded 19 digs.
 
Janssen ended with 11 kills, Gabrielle Bennett recorded 19 assists, Taryn Auyong notched 15 digs, Marina Schlaepfer had 12 and Jessica Mitchell added 10 for the Cougars.
 
Goldey-Beacom (12-18, 10-9 CACC) already had clinched a spot in the conference tournament and is the fourth seed from the South Division.  Caldwell (22-7, 16-3) already had the top spot from the North and the schools will face each other Tuesday at 7:00 pm, once again in Caldwell.  It will be the schools' first meeting in the CACC Tournament.
