Volleyball Falls, 3-0, at Caldwell in CACC Tournament Quarterfinals

After Goldey-Beacom dropped a tough five-set match Saturday at Caldwell, tonight's rematch in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament quarterfinals unfortunately produced the same result with a 3-0 loss (17-25, 16-25, 16-25) in Caldwell, NJ.

GBC played tough Saturday in a 3-2 loss at Caldwell and was ready for the second take.  Senior Jax Babezki (Warrington, PA), named third team All-CACC, gave the Lightning a boost in the opening set with six kills and a .556 hitting percentage.  Caldwell was limited to just a .194 percentage, but GBC only could get .028.

Caldwell in the second set turned to conference Player of the Year Katrina Janssen, who pounded five kills to give her squad a two-set lead.  Janssen then had four kills in the third set as part of the Cougars' 10 in that span to close the match.

Breanne Haley (Elkton, MD), named CACC Rookie of the Year, had 11 kills and 11 digs for her team-best 21st double-double of the season for the Lightning.  She also ended her season with 371 digs, moving into eighth place on the school's single-season list.

Freshman Sydney Fulton (Wilmington, DE) recorded 13 assists and 11 digs for her fourth double-double of the season, Babezki pounded eight kills, Olivia Florence (Glen Allen, VA) notched 10 assists and fellow junior Megann Santiago (Levittown, NY) added 11 digs for GBC.

Janssen ended with 13 kills, Gabrielle Bennett notched 16 assists, Alyssa Ayala recorded 11, Jessica Mitchell amassed 15 digs and Taryn Auyong added 11 for the Cougars (23-7).

Goldey-Beacom (12-19, 10-9 CACC) was playing in the CACC Tournament for the first time since 2006, the same year it last had a winning league record prior to this season.
