Volleyball Dealt Heartbreaking 3-2 Loss by Wilmington (DE)



Goldey-Beacom played a hard-fought match against local-rival Wilmington (DE), only to be handed a 3-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss (17-25, 30-28, 25-19, 8-25, 11-15) at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
The Wildcats in the final set played almost flawlessly with seven kills and just one error over 22 attacks for a .273 percentage.  Mandy Behiels led the way with four kills and a .375 percentage.
 
The Lightning could not stop the momentum of its thrilling second-set win, committing five errors in the finale with a .120 percentage.  Freshman Breanne Haley (Elkton, MD) had four kills in the fifth set with senior Jax Babezki (Warrington, PA) adding three.
 
Haley, earlier this week named CACC Rookie of the Week a fifth time as well as Player of the Week, recorded 24 kills and 12 digs for her 18th double-double of the season.  Babezki pounded 15 kills to go with a .367 percentage, giving her 31 kills and a .424 percentage combined in the two matches against Wilmington this year.
 
Freshman Sydney Fulton (Wilmington, DE) dished 33 assists, sophomore Makinsie Balderson (Fairfax, VA) had 20 digs and junior Megann Santiago (Levittown, NY) added 11 for the Lightning.
 
Behiels closed with 15 kills and 15 digs, Miranda Shaw recorded 23 assists and 10 digs, Jill Braunsberg had 22 and 12 with Addalyn Flores adding 15 digs for the Wildcats.
 
GBC (11-16, 9-7 CACC) remains tied with Georgian Court (9-7) for third place in the CACC South Division with three matches left.  Wilmington (11-17, 7-8) is just one back in the loss column with four matches remaining.
 
Goldey-Beacom is home Sunday against Holy Family for a noon match.
