Women’s Soccer Handed 4-1 Loss at Georgian Court

Lightning Clinches CACC Tournament Spot

Goldey-Beacom stayed toe-to-toe with Georgian Court before the latter put on a second-half scoring barrage, handing the visitors a 4-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss in Lakewood, NJ.

Following a goalless first half, Georgian Court broke the ice 45 seconds into the second half when Erin Wimmer put home Kaitlin Lister's long cross.  The Lions doubled their lead in the 54th minute when Lizzy Kroon went in on a breakaway and netted her eighth goal of the season.

The Lightning got one back in the 64th minute for a 2-1 deficit.  Freshman Cassidy Boyd (North East, MD) picked off an attempted clear by a Lion defender and put one in the back of the net for her first collegiate goal.

But Georgian Court needed just under a minute to restore the two-goal lead.  Lister took a pass from Michaella Paradiso, dribbled toward the cage and put it inside the right post for her fourth tally of the season.

Kroon in the 85th minute got her second of the match and ninth of the year to finish the scoring.

Boyd and freshman Taylor Owen (East Pennsboro, PA) both came off the bench to record six shots with junior Marta Lopez (Valencia, Spain) making eight saves over 70 minutes for the Lightning (9-3-1, 7-2 CACC), who based on the results from other games clinched their fourth straight trip to the CACC Tournament.

Kroon and Anissia Fucci attempted eight shots apiece and Carolyn Stanton played all 90 minutes in net for the Lions (10-3-2, 9-0).

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Dominican (NY) at 12:30 pm.  The men's game between the same schools follows at 3:00 pm.
