Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Falls, 4-3, to Saint Thomas Aquinas

Goldey-Beacom found itself locked in a physical encounter with Saint Thomas Aquinas and came up on the wrong end of a 4-3 decision at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

The Spartans grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute when Luis Morales converted a penalty kick.  Junior Declyn Brown (Glasgow, Scotland) came right back for the Lightning, taking a back-heel pass from sophomore Chahin Aghrim (Bonn, Germany) and tallying in the 15th minute for a level contest.

STAC regained the lead, 2-1, in the 23rd minute when Charlie Crane knocked the ball down with his body and fed Christian Jones, who banged it home.

GBC then scored twice in just over three minutes for a 3-2 lead.  Senior Joe Traynor (Warminster, PA) put home the initial shot from junior Lorenzo Gama (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) in the 68th minute and Alvaro Martinez (Zaragoza, Spain) then directed in a corner kick from fellow junior Artur Zvinchuk (Bonn, Germany).

Morales then was called upon for a penalty kick in the 72nd minute and he tallied for a 3-3 game.  Morales completed his hat trick in the 75th minute by tapping in a cross from the right side from Jones.

Aghrim and senior Rerom Delys (Vila Velha, Brazil) each had four shots and sophomore Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa) made five saves for the Lightning (1-1).

Morales attempted five shots and Jack Nicholson totaled seven saves for the Spartans (3-0).

Both teams had 10 players on the field at game's end and the Spartans closed with a 17-12 edge in fouls.

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday visits Nyack in its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  The men's game starts at 2:30 pm, which follows the women's noon contest.
