Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Mateus Silvestre’s PK Gives Men’s Soccer 1-0 Win at Nyack

Junior Mateus Silvestre (Picarras, Brazil) must have been thrilled to see Nyack on the schedule as his second-half penalty kick gave Goldey-Beacom a 1-0 road victory in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener for both teams.

Silvestre continued his magic against Nyack by converting from the spot in the 59th minute to give GBC (2-1, 1-0 CACC) its fourth straight victory in the series.  Three of Silvestre's four career goals have come against Warriors, with two last year that included an overtime tally.

The Lightning controlled most of the game with a 22-13 shots edge that included 10 on frame.  But they had to wait out a lightning delay and a high shot from Nyack's Nicolas Plaja with seven minutes to claim victory in the 2 1/2 hour marathon.

Junior Declyn Brown (Glasgow, Scotland) had six shots for GBC with sophomore Chahin Aghrim (Bonn, Germany) adding five.

Senior Joe Traynor (Warminster, PA) was forced into duty at goalkeeper and came up with his first collegiate victory, closing with three saves.

Andrew Kupp took three shots and Michael Reger amassed nine saves for the Warriors (1-3, 0-1).

Goldey-Beacom is home Wednesday against the District of Columbia, beginning at 4:00 pm.
