Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Rolls to 3-0 Shutout of Barton in Season Debut

Senior Jane Grimley (Franklinville, NJ) scored twice and junior Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) also tallied for Goldey-Beacom, which netted all of its goals in the first half for a 3-0 season-opening blanking of Barton at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning in the sixth minute got the only goal they would need when junior Natalie Waltz (Leola, PA) took the ball on the right side and fed a cross to Grimley, who buried it for a 1-0 cushion.

Grimley then capped her second career brace in the 40th minute for a 2-0 margin.  She booted one from the right side that appeared to be a cross, but everyone was fooled as it snuck inside the left post.

Turner-Rush then got into the act in the 42nd minute to close the scoring.  Junior Amy Runciman (Luton, England), an all-region and All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference performer from last season, booted one toward the six-yard box that Turner-Rush fought off the defense to head it home.

Runciman's assist was her 17th career, moving her into a tie with Kelli Parsons (2003-06) for second in school history and it was her 41st career point that puts her alone in 10th place.

GBC (1-0) ended the half with a 17-2 shots edge and closed the match ahead, 25-5.  Runciman amassed eight shots, sophomore Cliona Crammond (Wicklow, Ireland) attempted six and senior Becca Cordo (Roosevelt, NJ) had four.

Megan Bolick came up with four saves for the Lady Bulldogs (0-2)

It is Goldey-Beacom's most lopsided opening-day victory since a 10-0 blanking of Columbia Union (now Washington Adventist) on September 1, 2004.

Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday plays another North Carolina school, this time traveling to Murfreesboro for a noon match against Chowan.
