Game Recap: Volleyball |

Late Rally Falls Short for Volleyball in 3-0 Loss at Chestnut Hill

Goldey-Beacom fought off five match points in the final set, but in the end was handed a 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss (23-25, 18-25, 26-28) at Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia, PA.

The first set was not separated by more three points at any time and the Lightning could not hold on despite senior Grace McCarthy (Middletown, DE) getting eight kills and a .500 hitting percentage in the frame.  The second set was a different story with Chestnut Hill gaining a 17-10 kills edge to go with a .351 percentage.

Down 24-20 in the third set, GBC mounted its charge thanks to a kill from junior Jax Babezki (Warrington, PA).  After three straight errors for the Griffins leveled the set, the home team took advantage of an error before Lightning junior Jada Canteen (Newark, DE) pounded a kill for a 25-25 tie.

GBC then had a set point thanks to a Chestnut Hill error, but the home side won the next three points with Chase Cooksey getting a block assist on the each of the last two.

McCarthy ended with 15 kills and moved into sixth place in school history with 706 career.  Sophomore Olivia Florence (Glen Allen, VA) totaled 26 assists, Makinsie Balderson (Fairfax, VA) notched 14 digs, fellow freshman Lindsay Przywara (Williamstown, NJ) had 11 and Babezki recorded eight kills for GBC (3-4, 1-4 CACC), which was playing the first of four matches in five days.

Madison McBride had 11 kills and a .400 percentage, Samantha Gelfan notched 10 kills, Kennedy Sutton dished 36 assists and Regina Trabosh amassed 26 digs for the Griffins (5-9, 3-3).

Goldey-Beacom continues its busy week Wednesday at Lincoln (PA), beginning at 6:00 pm.
