Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Battles to the End in 3-1 Loss to Georgian Court

Goldey-Beacom held a first-half lead against the top seed from last year's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, but surrendered three markers in the second half for a 3-1 setback at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning garnered the early momentum when sophomore Cliona Crammond (Wicklow, Ireland) scored in the 10th minute, marking the first time the Lions had been breached in four league games this season.  After getting a cross from senior Jane Grimley (Franklinville, NJ), Crammond corraled the ball and booted one home from six yards for her first goal of the season and seventh career.

Georgian Court turned on the pressure in the second half and leveled the match, 1-1, in the 65th minute.  Kaitin Lister lofted a corner kick from the right that took a weird bounce off Amanda Astudillo and somehow found its way inside the right post.

Astudillo again was on the case for the Lions for another odd deflection, this time in the 82nd minute.  A high pass from Taylor Bramley was deflected high in the air and when it came down, Astudillo was right on the doorstep to nudge in her fourth goal of the season and a 2-1 GCU lead.

Lister worked her magic on a corner kick to settle matters, scoring directly off the free boot from the left in the 88th minute for the visitors fourth straight win.

Becca Cordo (Roosevelt, NJ) attempted three shots and fellow senior Cindell Aguirre (El Paso, TX) made four saves for Goldey-Beacom (5-2, 2-1 CACC).

Astudillo took four shots off the bench and Natalie Axelsson did not have to make a save for the Lions (4-2, 4-0).

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Saturday at Bloomfield as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  The women's game starts at 1:30 pm, followed by the men's contest after 3:45 pm.
