Men’s Soccer Rallies From Two Down for Stunning Win Over Concordia

Sophomore Chahin Aghrim's goal in the 89th minute capped Goldey-Beacom's furious comeback from two goals down in the second half for an incredulous 3-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Concordia (NY) at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

In an incredible turn of events, Aghrim got the Lightning going in the 69th minute with his first goal for a 2-1 deficit.  He was able to corral the ball passed to him by junior Mateus Silvestre (Picarras, Brazil) and raced up field, turning it into a fast-break tally.

Junior Declyn Brown (Glasgow, Scotland) was the next beneficiary of a great pass from Silvestre as his shot in the 73rd minute found its way inside the right post for a 2-2 tie.  It was Brown's third goal of the season.

This all set the stage for the final moments.  Concordia's Cristian Perez committed a foul roughly 20 yards from goal that resulted in a yellow card and a free kick.  Silvestre was called upon to do the honors and as if the climax really was in doubt, he found a wide-open Aghrim sprinting on the right side and the latter found the back of the net with 72 seconds remaining.

It was Aghrim's second consecutive brace, his fourth goal of the season and sixth career.

It only was Goldey-Beacom's second victory over Concordia and snapped a five-game skid in the series.

Brown finished with three shots and sophomore Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa) made five saves for the Lightning (4-1, 2-0 CACC), who are unbeaten in two league games for the second time in three seasons.

Oakley fired seven shots and Jaime Gonzalez ended with four saves for the Clippers (2-3, 2-1).

Ovan Oakley got the Clippers on the board in the fifth minute, taking a pass from Javier Alvarez Vispo and putting a shot inside the left post.  Oakley again come through in the 36th minute, rebounding a shot from Alvarez Vispo and scoring for his fourth tally of the season and a 2-0 Concordia bulge.

Goldey-Beacom is home Monday against East Stroudsburg, starting at 4:00 pm.
