Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Dealt First Loss, 1-0 by Shippensburg

Goldey-Beacom was on the wrong end of two great saves by Shippensburg and was handed its first loss of the season, 1-0 at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

The scoreless first half saw each goalkeeper share center stage.  Shippensburg's Kayla Kennedy made a great diving stop off a shot from junior Amy Runciman (Luton, England) in the 30th minute and Goldey-Beacom senior Cindell Aguirre (El Paso, TX) dove to rob Anna Snee in the 38th minute.

The Raiders owned a 7-2 shots edge in the first half with Aguirre making four saves.

Shippensburg broke the ice in the 55th minute with Ashley Weaver's first goal of the year.  Bailey Bzdak controlled the ball and fed an open Weaver, who beat a screen and put a 15-yard shot inside the right post.

The last 10 minutes saw additional pressure from the Lightning and another great stop from Kennedy in the 85th minute.  Junior Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) had the ball roughly 25 yards out and fired a shot that Kennedy leaped to her right and barely got a finger on for the save.

It was Turner-Rush's team-high third shot and Aguirre closed with six saves for the Lightning (4-1), who were off to their best start in team history.

Weaver closed with three shots off the bench and Kennedy ended with just those two saves for the Raiders (5-2).

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Concordia (NY) as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  The women's game starts at 1:00 pm, followed by the men's contest at approximately 3:15 pm.
