Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Cruises to 3-1 Season-Opening Win at Pitt-Johnstown

Junior Declyn Brown (Glasgow, Scotland), senior Rerom Delys (Vila Velha, Brazil) and junior Fernando Sanchez (Madrid, Spain) each scored for Goldey-Beacom, lifting it to a 3-1 season-opening triumph at Pittsburgh-Johnstown in Johnstown, PA.

Brown, who has been an extremely valuable player at midfield the last two seasons, finally was rewarded with the season's first goal and his first career tally.  He took a cross from sophomore Chahin Aghrim (Bonn, Germany) in the sixth minute and headed in the back of the net to open the scoring.

GBC then scored twice in 94 seconds to open a 3-0 lead and put away the contest.  Delys made it 2-0 when he took Aghrim's feed and scored in the 32nd minute for his eighth career goal.  Sanchez tallied courtesy of a rebound after Brown's initial attempt hit the crossbar in the 33rd minute for a three-goal margin.

Sanchez' goal was his 11th career, moving him into sole possession of 10th place in school history.

GBC ended the half with a 13-1 shots edge and Delys was responsible for four of them.

The Lightning (1-0) were in command throughout, ending with a 25-4 shots edge thanks to seven from Delys and three each from Aghrim and junior Mateus Silvestre (Picarras, Brazil).  Sophomore Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa) only had to make two saves with his first coming in the 62nd minute.

Colton Myers scored for the Mountain Cats (0-1) in the 38th minute and Nate Kleya amassed eight saves.

Goldey-Beacom plays its home opener next Wednesday against Saint Thomas Aquinas, starting at 4:00 pm.
