Volleyball Victimized by Fourth-Set Comeback in 3-1 Loss to Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom looked like it would force a fifth set, but Holy Family made a tremendous comeback in the fourth and dealt the home side a 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss (21-25, 21-25, 25-21, 23-25) at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning in the third set rode 14 kills and a .400 hitting percentage to close within 2-1.  Freshman Lindsay Przywara (Williamstown, NJ) had five kills and a .625 percentage with senior Grace McCarthy (Middletown, DE) and junior Jada Canteen (Newark, DE) getting four kills apiece.

GBC had a ton of momentum in the fourth set by building an 18-13 lead.  This was keyed by a 10-5 run in which McCarthy recorded four kills.

But the Tigers fought to a 21-21 tie courtesy of an 8-3 burst in which Jaime Bonner had four kills of her own.  The score got to 23-23 before Gianna Pesognelli recorded a kill and Chase Wassel followed suit on match point.

McCarthy closed the set with five kills and a .417 percentage for the Lightning, who played their heart out but were on the wrong side of a 15-13 kills edge in the stanza.

McCarthy closed with 15 kills and 11 digs for her sixth double-double of the year and third in the last four matches.  Przywara, the two-time reigning CACC Player and Rookie of the Week, notched 14 kills and 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the year.

Przywara now has 289 kills on the year, moving her into 10th place on the school's single-season list.

Sophomore Olivia Florence (Glen Allen, VA) amassed 43 assists for the Lightning (10-13, 5-11 CACC).

Wassel had 22 kills and 14 digs, Bonner had 12 kills and Kacie Brien dished 46 assists for the Tigers (13-14, 10-7).

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Saturday at University of the Sciences, beginning at noon.
