Volleyball Rallies for Stunning 3-1 Victory Over Wilmington (DE)



In arguably its most enthralling match of the year, Goldey-Beacom rallied to take control over the final three sets and grab a shocking 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win (10-25, 25-20, 20-19, 25-23) over Wilmington (DE) at the Jones Center in Wilmington.
 
The Lightning is set two looked like a completely different team, owning a 17-6 kills edge with a .308 hitting percentage.  Junior Jada Canteen (Warrington, PA) had six kills, no errors and a .667 percentage in the frame with senior Grace McCarthy (Middletown, DE) amassing five kills.
 
The third set only saw a 15-14 kills edge in Goldey-Beacom's way, but the home side only committed two errors.  McCarthy, junior Jax Babezki (Warrington, PA) and freshman Lindsay Przywara (Williamstown, NJ) each had four kills in the set.
 
The fourth set saw the Wildcats score the first three points and also hold a 12-10 lead.  But the Lightning struck back with a 15-11 run to end the match, culminated with Przywara's kill.  Przywara had six kills in the set, one which GBC posted a 15-7 kills advantage to secure only its second win in the teams' last 19 meetings.
 
Przywara and McCarthy had 14 kills apiece with Canteen and Babezki each getting 10.  Sophomore Olivia Florence (Glen Allen, VA) dished 44 assists and freshman Makinsie Balderson (Fairfax, VA) had 14 digs for the Lightning (5-7, 2-5 CACC).
 
Emma Kongevold and Allison Briley had 10 kills apiece, Jill Braunsberg totaled 23 assists and Addalyn Flores contributed 14 digs for the Wildcats (7-9, 4-3).
 
Goldey-Beacom is home again Friday to entertain Post, beginning at 7:00 pm.
