Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Falls, 1-0, to Wilmington (DE)

A game with Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tournament implications written all over did not go the way for Goldey-Beacom, which surrendered a penalty kick late in the match and was dealt a 1-0 loss by Wilmington (DE) in New Castle, DE.

The contest was a nip and tuck affair that both teams desperately wanted for conference-tournament position.  Both teams had four shots in the opening 45 minutes with each on the doorstep on several occasions looking for first blood.

But it was the Wildcats who struck in the 82nd minute.  Alex Luke was fouled in the box and Geoff Velasquez converted from the spot to give the visitors the all-important 1-0 lead.

Junior Declyn Brown (Glasgow, Scotland) had three shots and Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa) made four saves for the Lightning, who closed with a 13-9 shots edge.

Velasquez and Juan Bernal had two shots apiece and Vinny Tasca made five saves for the Wildcats.

GBC (9-6-2, 6-4-2 CACC) sits in fifth place in the league and is guaranteed to be on the road when the quarterfinals commence next Tuesday.  It will remain fifth and go to Caldwell in the quarterfinals if Nyack loses or ties Post on Friday.  But GBC will drop to sixth and play either Wilmington (DE) or Georgian Court if Nyack is victorious.

Wilmington (11-4-1, 7-3-1) is tied with Georgian Court (7-3-1) for second place and holds the tiebreaker.
