Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Elena Power’s Golden Goal Lifts Women’s Soccer to OT Win at Post

It has been a dream week for junior Elena Power (Glassboro, NJ) and she continued that with two goals, including an overtime tally 3:22 into the second overtime to give Goldey-Beacom a big 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at Post in Waterbury, CT.

Power was coming off a hat trick Tuesday at Holy Family and sustained her torrid run in today's pivotal match.  Her first tally came in the 57th minute when she went sent on a breakaway by senior Becca Cordo (Roosevelt, NJ) and found the back of the net for the all-important 1-0 lead.

The Lightning's defense looked to hold, but the Eagles got the equalizer in the 88th minute.  A corner kick from Hope Wilson was loose in the box and after Fitore Kilobocishta got a toe on it, Katharina Mertz scored for her third tally of the season.

GBC had one shot in the overtimes and it was Power again, scoring her fifth consecutive goal for the squad.  She took a long pass from senior Lauren DeVault (Williamstown, NJ) and tucked it inside the left post for her fifth goal of the season and sixth career.

The win was vital as it kept Goldey-Beacom (11-4-1, 7-3-1 CACC) in a tie for fourth place in the CACC with Philadelphia U. (7-3-1).  The Lightning would need to equal or better the Rams' result from next week and hope Holy Family does not beat Georgian Court if those results are a loss or draw.

GBC hosts Wilmington (DE) on Wednesday at 3:00 pm at a site to be determined.  Please check GBCAthletics.com and Twitter.com/GBCLightning for updates.  Philadelphia U. is home Tuesday against Chestnut Hill.

The victory also give GBC its greatest total since gaining a school-record 14 triumphs in 2001 and 2002.

Senior Cindell Aguirre (El Paso, TX) had nine saves for the Lightning with Wertz and Sam Rodriguez attempting four shots apiece for the Eagles (4-9-1, 4-6-1).
