Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Upends Shippensburg, 3-1, in Final Non-League Tilt

The final non-conference game of the regular season for Goldey-Beacom went according to plan as two second-half goals were enough for a 3-1 victory over Shippensburg at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning elected to save most of their starters for the second half, but the reserves that were part of today's first 11 did just fine.  One of them was junior Guilherme Barbosa (Sao Paulo, Brazil), who netted his first goal of the year.  After senior Rerom Delys (Vila Velha, Brazil) made a great 60-yard run with Raiders chasing him, he fed a perfect ball to Barbosa and the latter put one inside the right post in the 23rd minute for a 1-0 lead.

Shippensburg put on the pressure in search of the equalizer and found it in the 32nd minute.  Kevin Norris had the ball on the left side and launched a crossing pass for Justin Blumberg, who tallied for his first goal of the year.

Several of the GBC starters made their way on to the pitch in the second half and they struck pay dirt in the 57th minute.  Artur Zvinchuk (Bonn, Germany) got the ball on the left and looked inside for fellow junior Lorenzo Gama (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), who put one home from 10 yards for his third goal of the season and fourth career.

Freshman Markus Poulsen (Birkerod, Denmark) put the game out of reach in the 88th minute for a 3-1 Lightning cushion.  Junior Gustavo Santos (Campinas, Brazil) put a cross in the box and Poulsen found the inside of the right post to end Goldey-Beacom's six-game skid against Shippensburg.

Sophomore Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa) continued to be a presence with four saves that included three in the second half.  He now is sixth in school history with 116 career saves.

Gama attempted four shots for the Lightning (8-4-1), who closed with a 22-12 shots edge.

Evan Raimist made five saves and Patrick Luebben attempted three shots for the Raiders (5-9).

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Caldwell as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  The men's game starts at 2:45 pm, which follows the women's 12:30 pm contest.
