Men’s Soccer’s Unbeaten Streak Ends with 1-0 Loss to Felician



A dreary day at Caravel Academy in Bear, DE got worse for Goldey-Beacom when it permitted a goal in the 13th minute in a 1-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to Felician.
 
A first half that saw the shots level at 5-5 also saw the game's only marker.  Jovan Poggi lifted a perfect corner kick from the right side to Bashkim Saiti, who headed it home for his first goal of the year.  It was the Golden Falcons' only shot on cage.
 
GBC controlled most of the second half to the tune of a 16-1 shots edge, but could not get one through.  Goalkeeper Jasur Tursunboyev saved the day in the 90th minute when he saved a shot from Alvaro Martinez (Zaragoza, Spain) right on the goal line after fellow junior Declyn Brown (Glasgow, Scotland) had his initial shot blocked.
 
Tursunboyev closed with five saves and Saiti amassed two shots for Felician (2-6-2, 2-3-1 CACC).
 
The loss ended the Lightning's six-game unbeaten string, their longest since winning six straight in 2002.  GBC (6-2-1, 4-1-1) now sits in a first-place tie with Georgian Court (4-1-1) in the league at the halfway mark.
 
Goldey-Beacom is on the road Wednesday to face West Chester for a 3:00 pm match.
