Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Falls, 1-0, to Barton in 2015 Opener

Goldey-Beacom had to battle Barton and a lightning storm in its season opener, but were defeated by both in a 1-0 loss that was called with 16:25 remaining in Mount Olive, NC.

The match was suspended in the 74th minute due to lightning and then was declared final.  It is an official match since more than the required 70 minutes were played.

The Lightning played solidly in the first half under second-year coach Brian Sheehan, looking to improve on their nine-win total from last season.  That was the program's highest win total since notching 10 victories in 2005.

Barton opened the scoring in the 71st minute when Ellen Jayne took a cross from Taylor Doeble and put it inside the post.  It came in the second half, during which the Bulldogs owned a 5-2 shots edge.

Five different players for GBC (0-1) had a shot and Cindell Aguirre (El Paso, TX) notched four saves.  Emily Frutal recorded three shots and Kelsey Rothwell amassed two saves for Barton (0-1).

Goldey-Beacom returns to action Sunday at Mount Olive as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  The women's game begins at 1:00 pm, followed by the men's contest at 4:00 pm.
