Volleyball Rolls to Season-Opening 3-0 Victory Over Bowie State

A new era with several new players and a new coach got off to a rousing start with Goldey-Beacom rolling to a 3-0 victory (25-23, 25-18, 25-17) over Bowie State as part of Ramfest in West Chester, PA.

The match marked the debut of Sara Scheirman as coach and Goldey-Beacom left little doubt in the outcome.  The combination of great play from seniors Innocent Early (Newark, NJ) and Mackenzie Wilson (Wilmington, DE) along with junior Grace McCarthy (Middletown, DE) and newcomers Olivia Florence (Glen Allen, VA) and Jada Canteen (Newark, DE) played a huge role in the win.

The Lightning (1-0) garnered control in the second set, when they rallied from a 13-7 deficit to score nine straight points and open a 16-13 lead.  This proved vital in the squad's first opening-day victory since 2011.

Canteen finished with 10 kills, Early had nine, McCarthy amassed eight and 12 digs with Florence dishing 30 assists for GBC, which owned a .256 hitting percentage that included .435 with no errors in the third set.

Yaje Ngundam recorded four kills and six digs for the Bulldogs, who only had a .097 percentage.

Goldey-Beacom completes play in Ramfest on Saturday against host West Chester at 9:00 am and Ursuline at approximately 1:00 pm.
