Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Handed 3-0 Loss by Post

Despite gaining a shots advantage, Goldey-Beacom gave up a penalty kick late in the first half and was dealt a tough 3-0 loss by Post in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning outshot the Eagles, 10-6, in the first half and looked to pounce on their opportunities in a battle of teams who entered tied for fifth place in the CACC.  But it was the visitors who cracked the scoreboard first as Tiago Martins converted a penalty kick in the 37th minute for a 1-0 Post lead.

The second half remained a tight battle as the Eagles opened a 2-0 cushion in the 69th minute.  Martins had a shot that was deflected and Armando Filho put away the rebound for his first goal of the season.

Post cemented the match in the 85th minute when Jacob Butler-Bowdon lifted a cross that Martins headed in for his fourth goal of the year to close the scoring.

Martins ended with five shots and Jon Hanlon made five saves for the Eagles (4-4, 3-2 CACC).

Sophomores Fernando Sanchez (Madrid, Spain) and Manuel Berto (Valencia, Spain) each had three shots and freshman Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa) amassed four saves for the Lightning (2-5, 2-3), who owned a 14-9 lead in shots.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Tuesday to visit East Stroudsburg for a 7:00 pm start.
