Volleyball Drops 3-2 Heartbreaker to Holy Family



Goldey-Beacom rallied in the third and fourth sets to force a fifth, but was handed a tough 3-2 loss (17-25, 15-25, 25-21, 25-23, 10-15) by Holy Family in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
Holy Family in the third set held a 17-13 lead and was about five minutes from winning, but no one told Goldey-Beacom.  The latter rallied for seven straight points to take a 20-17 with junior Grace McCarthy (Middletown, DE) getting two kills in that run.
 
McCarthy had six kills and seven digs in the set with senior Mackenzie Wilson (Wilmington, DE) getting eight digs.
 
The fourth set saw the visitors grab a 19-14 lead before the Lightning ended things with an 11-4 run.  McCarthy continued her solid play this year with three kills in the spurt and closed the set with six.
 
But the Tigers ended the fifth set on an 8-4 run with Chase Wassel, who had five kills and a .400 percentage in the set, getting three kills in that spurt.
 
Holy Family notched 10 kills and a .333 percentage in the finale with GBC getting seven and .154.
 
McCarthy totaled career highs of 18 kills and 19 digs with Wilson getting a personal-best 33 digs.  Freshman Olivia Florence (Glen Allen, VA) had 36 kills and 16 digs with sophomore Shyanne Shank (Lebanon, PA) contributing 10 kills for the Lightning (4-7, 0-4 CACC).
 
Rachel Johnson posted 16 kills and 25 digs, Wassel amassed 15 and 25, Natalie Stewart had 44 assists and 11 digs with Candyce Riley adding 14 digs for the Tigers (2-11, 1-2)
 
Goldey-Beacom is off until next Tuesday, when it hosts Philadelphia U. in a league match at 7:00 pm.
