Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Omar Hernandez’ Golden Goal Lifts Men’s Soccer to 2-1 Victory at Caldwell

Sophomore Omar Hernandez (West Grove, PA) scored a massive goal 6:22 into the second overtime for Goldey-Beacom, which walked away from Caldwell with a huge 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory in Caldwell, NJ.

Caldwell grabbed a 1-0 lead with 1:57 left in the first half when Jakub Havlak took a midfield pass from Evan Marques and chipped it home for his first goal of the season.

The Lightning have shown a penchant of not letting down near the end of the half and today proved to be no different.  Junior Olof Tapper (Linkoping, Sweden) received a great corner kick from freshman Chahin Aghrim (Bonn, Germany) and put one home with 32 seconds left in the stanza for a big 1-1 draw.

The second half was goalless despite GBC owning a 9-4 shots edge.  Freshman goalkeeper Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa) then came up with two saves in the first extra period and the game proceeded to a second.

It was in the match's 107th minute when GBC (2-4, 2-2 CACC) lowered the curtain.  Aghrim again provided the assist, lifting a cross in the box that Hernandez put in the back of the net for his first goal of the season and sixth career.

The Lightning ended with a 17-11 shots edge and junior Joe Traynor (Warminster, PA) had three attempts.  Bismilla continued his strong play, closing with four saves.

Tom Yorston took five shots and Michael Hartmann amassed five saves for the Cougars (0-6, 0-2).

Goldey-Beacom is off until next Saturday, when it welcomes Post as part of a home doubleheader with the women's team.  The men's contest starts at 4:00 pm, which follows the women's 1:00 pm match.
