Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Falls Just Short in 3-2 Loss to Chestnut Hill

Goldey-Beacom nearly rallied late, but in the end was handed a tough 3-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss by Chestnut Hill at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

Chestnut Hill in the first half had five corner kicks in just over two minutes and converted on the last one.  Nicholas Jaffe put one in front that Juan Amaya won among numerous players and booted home in the 29th minute to open the scoring.

It looked like it would remain that going into the second half, but GBC had other ideas with 10 seconds left.  Lorenzo Gama (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) turned out to be the benefactor, getting a great ball from fellow sophomore Cameron Wilkinson (Terrigal, Australia) and putting a great 20-yard shot inside the top right corner for a 1-1 draw.

Even with the goals, it was the goalkeepers who highlighted the first half.  GBC freshman Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa) and Chestnut Hill's James Jackson each made tremendous saves and the two ended the stanza with a combined eight stops.

Matthew Casaletto gave the Griffins the lead for good in the 61st minute, firing a 25-yard shot inside the top right corner for a 2-1 lead.  Nils Fussen provided the visitors what proved to be a huge insurance goal, getting a touch pass from Jaffe and putting it home in the 72nd minute for a two-goal margin.

The Lightning pressed things and worked their way to a penalty kick.  Junior Rerom Delys (Vila Velha, Brazil), who this week was named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll, converted on the try in the 87th minute for his third goal of the season and a 3-2 margin.

GBC kept pressing and looked for more changes, but time was not on its side.

Sophomore Mateus Silvestre (Picarras, Brazil) took four shots for the Lightning, who closed with a 17-15 edge.  Bismilla finished with three saves.

Amaya and Lindsay Murdoch fired three shots and Jackson made six saves for Chestnut Hill, which ended with 10 corner kicks that included seven in the first half.

Goldey-Beacom is back in action Saturday at Caldwell as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  The men's game starts at 2:30 pm, which follows the women's noon contest.
