An historic run that was the 2014-15 Goldey-Beacom women's tennis season ended with the 38th-ranked squad downed, 5-0, by No. 10 New York Tech in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Brookville, NY.

The Bears (19-3), ranked first in the East Region, jumped to a 3-0 lead by grabbing all of the doubles matches.  Sara Burinato and Alessia Rossetti posted an 8-3 triumph over freshmen Laura Moreno (Murcia, Spain) and Julia Gutierrez (Quart, Spain) at first doubles, Melanie Benyadi and Alex Borgenhoff notched an 8-3 win over senior Stephanie Puentes Robinson (Bogota, Colombia) and sophomore Amina Mrad (Berlin, Germany) at second doubles with Justyna Krol and Gabriela Siembab getting an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles vs. senior Filipa Correia (Monte Estoril, Portugal) and sophomore Maria Victoria (Totana, Spain).

Gutierrez provided a ray of hope at No. 4 singles, winning the first set from Krol 6-1.  But NYIT got two singles points to clinch the tie as Rossetti beat Moreno, 6-0, 6-1, at first singles and Siembab got a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over sophomore Francesca Beg (Westbury, England) at No. 6 singles.

The loss ends what was one of the best seasons in the 129-year history of the college.  That history was made Saturday, when GBC upended No. 34 Chestnut Hill 5-3 in the first round to become the College's first team in any sport to win a head-to-head NCAA Tournament game/match.

The Lightning (18-5) also broke the school record for most victories and tied the school record with 10 shutouts.  GBC made its fifth appearance at the NCAA Tournament in the last six seasons and played in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference final for the fourth time in the last six years.

Goldey-Beacom also had three players (Moreno, 13th; Victoria, 15th; Puentes Robinson, 16th) regionally ranked according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
