No. 37 Women’s Tennis Ranked Fourth in First NCAA East Region Rankings

No. 37 Goldey-Beacom, in the midst of yet another solid campaign, sits fourth according to the first NCAA East Region Rankings of the spring.

These rankings serve as the principle criteria for selecting teams to compete in the NCAA Tournament. The Lightning have played in the NCAA East Regional four of the last five years.

Goldey-Beacom (15-4, 7-1 CACC) this season competed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference final, has recorded eight shutouts that are two shy of the school record from 2012-13, the singles players have posted a 101-26 record and the doubles teams are 46-16.

Among the singles players, senior Stephanie Puentes Robinson (Bogota, Colombia) is 16-2 overall with a 13-1 mark at third singles and sophomore Amina Mrad (Berlin, Germany) is 15-2 overall with a 9-1 record at No. 5 singles. Sophomore Maria Victoria (Totana, Spain) owns a 14-6 mark with freshman Laura Moreno (Murcia, Spain) and senior Filipa Correia (Monte Estoril, Portugal) each posting 11 victories.

Moreno is ranked 13th in the East Region according it the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, Victoria is 15th and Puentes Robinson is 16th.

In doubles, Puentes Robinson, Mrad and sophomore Nina Sengl (Puchheim, Germany) all have 13 wins with Moreno notching 12 that all have come at first doubles.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road this weekend competing at the Bloomsburg Duals. It will face Bloomsburg and Slippery Rock on Saturday and Kutztown on Sunday.
