Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Falls Just Short in 3-2 Loss at Wilmington (DE)

Freshman Cliona Crammond (Wicklow, Ireland) and sophomore Amy Runciman (Luton, England) each scored, but Goldey-Beacom allowed two goals just 22 seconds apart for a 3-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at Wilmington (DE) in Newark, DE.

The first half hour was played to a stalemate before the Wildcats (8-6, 8-2 CACC) opened the scoring in the 32nd minute.  Loran Wyrough made a great pass to a wide-open Carin Essex-Arline, who found the back of the cage for her third goal of the season.

Before everyone could catch their breath, Wyrough made it 2-0.  Kellie MacIntosh put a shot on net that junior goalkeeper Cindell Aguirre (El Paso, TX) deflected off the crossbar, but Wyrough was right on the goal line to clean up the tally for her 14th marker of the year.

The Lightning (6-8, 4-6) sent junior Valarie Orth (Pittsgrove, NJ) into the match to generate offense and her aggressive led to a free kick in the 36th minute.  That kick from 25 yards was deposited by Crammond, whose attempt deflected off goalkeeper Kierstyn Williams and into the top corner for her fourth of the season a 2-1 deficit.

GBC looked to shut down the home team and eventually get the equalizer, but its defense was breached in the 72nd minute for a 3-1 contest.  Taylor Nelson placed a great cross in the box that La'Dae Boykin tallied for her first of the year.

The Lightning got within 3-2 in the 86th minute when Runciman's penalty kick struck pay dirt for her team-leading seventh goal of the year, but the visitors could get no closer.

Four different players had two shots and Aguirre, the reigning CACC Defender of the Week, made two saves for GBC.  Wyrough took six shots and Williams came up with seven saves for Wilmington.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Bloomfield as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  The women's match starts at 1:00 pm, which precedes the men's 3:15 pm contest.
