BRONX, N.Y. – Led by junior captain
Aaron Easter (Rising Sun H.S./Elkton, Md.) and junior
Logan Jones, the Goldey-Beacom College men's cross country team opened its season by finishing in second place at the Baruch College Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park on Sunday morning.
Monroe College claimed the team title by scoring 31 points as four of the team's five runners finished in the top 10 places. Meanwhile, the Lightning scored 38 points to earn the second place effort.
Easter completed the 8K race in a time of 28 minutes, 22 seconds to earn second place while Jones followed just 19 seconds later to claim a fourth place performance.
Competing in the first meet of his college career, freshman
Chandler Brooks (Bohemia Manor H.S./Warwick, Md.) finished in eighth place after posting a time of 29 minutes, 31 seconds. Freshman
Victor Rueda-Jimenez (Sussex Technical H.S./Milford, Del.) crossed the finish line in a time of 30:02.
Sophomore
Rudy Braxton (Hodgson Vo-Tech H.S./Bear, Del.) earned 13th place after turning in a time of 30:32 while freshman
Josh Shultz (Easton Area H.S./Easton, Pa.) and sophomore
Ludric Francis (Smyrna H.S./Smyrna, Del.) finished in 15th and 31st places, respectively.
Freshmen
Jordan Dodson (Perryville H.S./Port Deposit, Md.) and
Crystal McCollum (North East H.S./Elkton, Md.) led the Lightning women's cross country team in the season opener by finishing in fifth and seventh places, respectively. Dodson recorded a time of 27:33 in the 6K race while McCollum finished 20 seconds later.
Senior
Ashley Zaccaria (Gloucester City H.S./Gloucester City, N.J.) turned in a 14th place finish after completing the course in 29 minutes, 5 seconds.
