JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - Senior forward
Luiz Ristow (Joinville, Brazil) recorded the third multi-goal effort of his college career, but it was not enough as Goldey-Beacom College (3-4-0) dropped a 3-2 non-conference decision against the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown (1-5-0) at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore forward
Mike Mercea (Serra Catholic H.S./White Oak, Pa.) gave the Mountain Cats a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute off an assist from redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Nate Kleya (Gateway H.S./Monroeville, Pa.). It was Mercea's second goal of the season.
Midway through the opening stanza, the Mountain Cats upped the advantage to 2-0 when junior forward
Colin Michalski (Baldwin H.S./Pittsburgh, Pa.) tallied his second goal of the season.
Just over seven minutes into the second half, Mercea scored his second goal of the match when he headed in a throw-in by freshman midfielder
Erik Etter (East Pennsboro H.S./Enola, Pa.) to give Pitt-Johnstown a 3-0 edge.
With 17:03 remaining, Ristow ended the Mountain Cats' shutout bid when he scored his fourth goal of the season with an unassisted marker. Less than two minutes later, he closed the margin to 3-2 when he scored on a shot from the top of the penalty box.
But, the Lightning were unable to get any closer despite a pair of corner kick opportunities in the closing minutes.
The Lightning outshot the Mountain Cats by a 30-10 margin.
Quick Strikes· The Lightning have outshot their opponents in six of their seven matches this season.
· The Lightning attempted a season-high 30 shots against Pitt-Johnstown on Thursday.
· A transfer from the University of Maine Farmington, Ristow had two multi-goal efforts as a sophomore at UMF, including a three-goal performance against Wheelock.
· Ristow has scored all five of his goals in the last four matches.
