Ristow's Two Goals Not Enough as Men's Soccer Falls at Pitt-Johnstown

Senior Records First Multi-Goal Game in Losing Effort

JOHNSTOWN, Pa.
- Senior forward Luiz Ristow (Joinville, Brazil) recorded the third multi-goal effort of his college career, but it was not enough as Goldey-Beacom College (3-4-0) dropped a 3-2 non-conference decision against the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown (1-5-0) at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore forward Mike Mercea (Serra Catholic H.S./White Oak, Pa.) gave the Mountain Cats a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute off an assist from redshirt freshman goalkeeper Nate Kleya (Gateway H.S./Monroeville, Pa.). It was Mercea's second goal of the season.

Midway through the opening stanza, the Mountain Cats upped the advantage to 2-0 when junior forward Colin Michalski (Baldwin H.S./Pittsburgh, Pa.) tallied his second goal of the season.

Just over seven minutes into the second half, Mercea scored his second goal of the match when he headed in a throw-in by freshman midfielder Erik Etter (East Pennsboro H.S./Enola, Pa.) to give Pitt-Johnstown a 3-0 edge.

With 17:03 remaining, Ristow ended the Mountain Cats' shutout bid when he scored his fourth goal of the season with an unassisted marker. Less than two minutes later, he closed the margin to 3-2 when he scored on a shot from the top of the penalty box.

But, the Lightning were unable to get any closer despite a pair of corner kick opportunities in the closing minutes.

The Lightning outshot the Mountain Cats by a 30-10 margin.
