Men's Soccer Returns to Winning Ways With 2-1 Victory at Nyack

Lightning Improve to 3-1 in CACC Play



NYACK, N.Y.
- Junior defender Daniel Bennett (Arthur P. Schalick H.S./Pittsgrove, N.J.) and freshman forward Fernando Sanchez (Madrid, Spain) each scored a goal in the final 15 minutes of regulation as Goldey-Beacom College (4-4-0, 3-1-0) overcame a 1-0 deficit to earn a 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Nyack College (0-7-1, 0-5-0) at Moseley Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors took an early 1-0 lead in the eighth minute when freshman forward Ralph Nicholson (Allendale, N.J.) converted a pass from graduate student defender Maximillian Schmitt (Wentdorf, Germany) for his first goal of the season.

Nyack held the advantage until the 76th minute when the Lightning were awarded a penalty kick after a foul by the Warriors. Bennett converted the penalty kick for his first goal of the season, tying the match at 1-1.

Just over six minutes later, Sanchez gave the Lightning a 2-1 advantage when he scored his fourth goal of the season off an assist from freshman midfielder Mateus Silvestre (Picarras, SC, Brazil).

Freshman goalkeeper Marcus Arrvidsson (Taby, Sweden) made one save for the Lightning, who outshot the Warriors by a 17-11 margin.

• The Lightning have outshot their opponents in seven of their eight matches this season ... Goldey-Beacom has outshot its opponents by a 138-74 margin.
• The Lightning were forced to play with just 10 men for the final eight minutes after Silvestre was issued a red card.
• Goldey-Beacom earned its third CACC win of the season on Saturday, marking their highest conference win total since 2009 when the Lightning had a 4-7-0 record.
• Nyack suffered its sixth straight loss and had its winless streak extended to 10 straight matches, dating back to last season.
